Adidas is reshaping the Freerider family for 2027, bringing flat-pedal and clipless shoes under one name. The familiar Stealth rubber remains, but three-stripe branding, revised protection and a wider choice of closures give the range a new direction.
Four models, different priorities
The entry Freerider gains an EVA midsole in place of the old cupsole arrangement, with comfort and lower weight as the stated goals. It retains a suede upper and dot-pattern outsole. Its announced weight is 398 g in UK size 8.5, with a US launch price of ≈ R2 008.

The lace-up Freerider Pro uses a weather-resistant synthetic upper and a five-layer toe box with Poron impact protection. Deeper tread at the toe and heel is intended to help when walking, while raised outer-side rubber adds coverage. The listed weight is 353 g in UK size 8.5 and the announced US price is ≈ R2 677.
The Freerider Pro BOA adds a single Li2 dial and an asymmetric Performfit Wrap. The specification lists a water-resistant PU upper, protected toe box and a weight of 364 g in UK size 8.5.
Clipless joins the Freerider family

The Freerider Pro BOA Clipless takes over the role previously associated with the Hellcat name. It uses two Li2 dials, a ripstop upper and Stealth Marathon rubber. Its cleat slot extends 5 mm farther rearwards than the Hellcat’s, giving riders more scope to experiment with cleat position. The published weight is 485 g in UK size 10.5; it should not be compared directly with the smaller-size weights above.
The launch material gives conflicting prices for the two BOA models, so MTBSA is leaving those prices unconfirmed. The stated size range runs from US 5.5–10.5 for women and US 5.5–14.5 for men.
What South African riders should watch for

Greg Minnaar was among the athletes involved in development, alongside riders including Vali Höll, Gracey Hemstreet, Amaury Pierron and Danny MacAskill. That gives the range a South African connection, but does not establish local availability.
The announced international on-sale date is March 2027. Local prices and delivery dates still need confirmation. This is a launch overview, not a ride-tested review: try the fit, check pedal compatibility and compare the flat and clipless versions carefully before buying.

About these rand prices
Amounts marked ≈ are approximate rand conversions of overseas prices, using SARS reference rates dated 12 October 2026, rounded to the nearest rand. They are not South African retail quotes and exclude additional shipping, import charges and local retailer costs. Confirm current local pricing with a South African dealer. Unqualified dollar prices in US-market reporting are treated as US dollars; explicitly identified currencies use their corresponding rate.
